Botanical wallpaper

On our ongoing theme of bringing nature home, what's not to love about these botany inspired wallpapers! A friend pointed out they remind her too much of William Morris Arts & Crafts designs. We don't necessarily think that's a bad thing! The Arts & Crafts movement certainly seems to keep on giving and inspiring modern design.

These wallpapers are also reminiscent of modern patterned versions of early botanical illustrations from the fifteenth century onwards. As European explorers sailed forth on grand voyages of discovery, the on-board scientists visually recorded their encounters with exotic plants and animals. The best of these being the botanical drawings of Harriet Isabel Adams and Maria Sibylla Merian.
